Fare game!

Go to SOLDAT and download this free shooty-shooty game. I saw this reviewed and played on a tv show here and I only mention it cos there are good similarities with Worms (what they said) and I think also Scorched Tanks and Extreme Violence (B-b-b-b-b-bingo!!!), if you remember those games too. What makes this game different is that it's real time (like Extreme Violence), rather than turn based (like Worms & Scorched Tanks), but you still get to choose from a bunch of weapons while confined to some random landscape. Kinda looks like Lemmings too. ALSO, you can play against, i think, 30 odd other people at the same time over the Internet, wooo, chase me. This is only available for PC, so I can't play it yet =(

The Bug: Part III

Ugghhhh.... whatever J had last Sunday, I got on Friday. So, J didn't have food poisoning and if it's the same bug that Bec, Poll, Muz and Bleaz had, we feel very sorry for you and you did very well coping while you were here or on your flight home. This bug has taken out a good portion of J's co-workers - she was the first it seems, but luckily she wasn't at work when it struck, unlike some of the others ("Caution, wet floor"). It does seem a harsher strain than what the UK people had, as we were all rather, how shall I say ... explosive. I was 'taken out' suddenly on Thursday evening at about 9pm and it was a display of sickness (think The Exorcist) until about 4.30am. The next day was just a case of waiting out the aches, the fever and the 'runs' to the bathroom. Saturday, I was mostly ok, just starting to eat again, rehydrate and regain my energy. Now, I'm back to normal. So that's my doctors report. Hopefully J's mom has avoided it, she's fine so far and hopefully you will be all ok. Good night. Sleep tight. Don't let the bed bugs cause the life to poor out of you.

Diary of a mad movie

This weekend a new film opened at the cinema here called Diary of a Mad Black Woman. Ok, title pretty much explains it all I think. It's had trailers during various ad breaks here and was a sponsor of the WWE last week to get it a bit more attention, but there's really not been any hype about it and it wouldn't have really registered on our radars if it wasn't for the obnoxious amount of screenings it has at our local AMC cinema! It's certainly no cinema 'event' like say Star Wars or Jurassic Park, but somebody's desided it was to take up 5 screens yesterday! That meant there was 27 chances to see it in one day! I mean, take 'Meet the Fockers' for example, that got a lot of press coverage here with it being the sequel to the very succesful 'Meet the Parents', with its various big names in it appearing on various talk and celebrity gossip type shows, but it was only on one, maybe 2 screens on its opening week. Diary of a Mad Black Woman doesn't have anyone that I, or anyone that's commented to me, have heard of in it. Bizaro.

Like Horror films?

...You better do if you live here, and at all frequent the cinema here. They're going horror movie mad here (they being Hollywood, or something). In the latter half of last year we had The Exorcist: The beginning, Open Water, Saw, The Forgotten, The Grudge and Blade Trinity but this year already has seen and we will be seeing this lot...
The Darkness, Hide and Seek, The Boogeyman, Alone in the Dark, Constantine, Cursed, The Jacket, The Ring 2, Dark Water, The Amityville Horror, House of Wax (featuring Plaster of Paris Hilton, surprisingly not as one of the wax work dummy's in the film), The Cave and The Corpse Bride (admittedly this is an animation, but still might be scary...maybe).

Just as well I like these films then! But I bet half of 'em are crap. Speaking of which, I just got to see Open Water at the weekend. What a let down that was. Probably a victim of it's own hype as well as not having the cinema effect watching it at home, but bugger all happens. It got a little intense around the stormy bit (for 5 minutes), but it should have been intense pretty much all the way through. I didn't really like the 'home-movie' style opening, where we see snippets of what this couple are up to, including a bit where you see them naked when they go to bed, which came out of nowhere! And to be honest, unnecessary, but the nature of the film should mean kids aren't watching anyway, though gran my be offended. There's a bit of French language too, but that's understandable, being left behind in the ocean with sharks nibbling at yer toes. Anyway, I thought this was much like A Perfect Storm... also 'based on true events' but leaves you thinking, 'no it's not.' Thinking about it, A Perfect Storm was better... and we know what I think of that film. In fairness, Open Water is actually completely fictitious, but uses this 'based on real events' to real you in (ha, 'real' ... fishing... tenuous) and makes you think 'Wow, this happened to someone?!' but it didn't, which really lets me down and therefore think the film is pants. When the film ends you'll know it didn't happen to someone. But I watched the Making Of on the DVD and it says how the guy read some news stories about people being eaten by sharks when left out at sea, and that's where the reality of the film ends. The writer/director just used it as inspiration, like the Peter Pan story was inspired by the kids and that that J.M. Barrie hung around with, but it's not, and nor did they try and tell us it was 'based on true events.' *humf* Maybe it'd be better to watch if you already know its as made up as Star Wars (sorry to break that to you).

Open Water: A Perfect Storm is better. Ouch. Never thought I'd use A Perfect Storm in a positive manor.

Movie Review: Torque

This was on HBO today, thought I'd give it a gander, though I wasn't expecting great things. I did right. Good job, so's not to be disappointed. The camera-work and scenery are ok (it looks like Bad Boys with its rusty, sandy tones), as are the bikes I guess if that's what does it for you, much like The Fast and Furious was with it's cars, but that had a better story line with better acting...!!?!?
Henry just screwed himself. See those scratches and nicks? [throws a bike chain link to his love interest]
Yeah.
Well it picked them up from the sprocket. Now no two bikes have the same chain-ware pattern, 'cos no two sprockets are the same. So we match the chain used to kill Junior with Henry's bike... and we got 'im.
Like a finger-print...?
A biker mechanics wet-dream. Brain challenging stuff I'm sure you'll agree.

This is also the second time I've seen Ice-Cube in a film in as many days. Now with his tough 'n bad guy persona and bit of French from his mouth, this film may help keep his integrity back in his hood - assuming Ice-Cube came from a hood with his rapper routes (He was a rapper right? I can't think of anything he did), not to mention that name. Now thinking back to yesterdays diabolical film; Are We There Yet?, 'Ice' will, or should never be able to show his face around his contemporaries again!

She's such an easy target... but why is the FBI wasting their time with this lamebrain and not chasing evil doers? I bet the agents were readily volunteering to take the 'victims' statement... bet that didn't take but a minute either.

It seems many sites have been 'ordered' to remove any information they have of the airheads mobile contents, perticularly the phone numbers, so I can't (and probably best not) link directly to the phone book, but Defamer.com's log of events, complete with their own FBI scare, has a fair bit of information, pretty funny... but why would anyone have loads of pictures of themself on their camera phone?! WTF is Podcasting?!

See, I'd heard about this Podcasting not so long ago and just assumed it was having audio on a Blog. Last week I learnt exactly what Podcasting is, and yes, it's another really geeky, internet hound, pass-time. Today I came across this short film all about it [Real Player will be required], that can get the uninitiated up to speed.
Four Minutes about Podcasting is a short film tells you why podcasting can make your life better, and shows you everything you need to know to set up a simple program to have new podcasts downloaded automatically. In only four minutes
Here's a written introduction to Podcasting on G4Tech TV's Website.
The NYTimes has more here.
And the iPodlounge seems to have it covered in this article.

There's also Mobcasting, just to stir things up a bit, that's making a
podcast from your mobile phone... I think.

Some good Podcasting sites I've discovered so far are;
Beercasting.com
Adams Daily Source Code
The Area51 Show
BandTrax.net
The Dawn & Drew Show
IPodder.org (Resources & Directory)
Podcast.net (The Podcast Directory)

I think I like it, doubt I'll be making any of my own shows though. Who'd give a monkeys?

The bug is back

Uh-Oh, today Jana is fully taken out with what seems like the bug that had struck down Becky, Poll and Muz (and I've just heard Bleasdale was ill on the flight back to the UK, unlucky). We've never known anyone throw up so much... starting with all last nights Mexican! Think she's worse than anyone else has been, which makes us believe it's more likely to be food poisoning rather than the same bug from over a week ago. We had the same thing for the Mexican food, so it can't be that, but she had a steak from the Texas Roadhouse, again, Saturday lunchtime and I had something different, but it took it's time to make an effect, if that's it. Plus I've not really suffered from any bugginess, so if it was that, it'd be highly likely I'd have it too.

My dad said that apparently 13, count 'em, people have come down with this 'bug' now, but I only know of 4, mentioned at the start of this post. Who are the other 9 afflicted?!

Movie Review: Sideways

Quality film. If you like stuff like Lost in Translation (ok) or Garden State (even better), then you should like this, though this film has a more clearly defined story than the two former films. It's directed by Alexander Payne, the chap that made About Schmidt and Election, and has about the same level of humour, so's you know what to expect... I laughed out loud a few times, though on my own*. I think that Paul Giamatti fella, who's been in Private Parts ('Pig Vomit'), Confidence, American Splendor and, how could I forget, Big Moma's House, is a very watchable actor. I'm not gay. He's just a good actor, as is Thomas Haden Church (would Thomas Church not do? or is it so's not to get muddled up with all the other Thomas Churches...?!) I think I appreciated all the wine references a bit more than I would have 3 weeks ago, having done a little research in what wine to get for the wedding, though the amount I have left, I'd might have well saveed a buck or two and got some Lambrini. Anyway, I think I learnt a little more having watched the film too, with Giamatti trying teach Church the finer points of wine tasting. It won two Golden Globes for best comedy and best screenplay and should pick something up at the Oscars this weekend. The movies Website is neat too. (Is 'neat' an acceptable appreciative word to use? I'm sick of saying 'cool'... I don't surf, or snowboard. Maybe I should. Is 'neat' even spelt correctly?).

*I actually saw this film on my own billy lonesome. One week after being wed and I'm already taking myself to the cinema! That's not strictly true; Jana took me there on her way to work. I really need a drivers license...and a car.

Sideways: Corking.

Pinot Noir gets its close-up - Miles from "Sideways" has replaced Robert M. Parker Jr., at least temporarily, as America's most influential wine critic. Miles likes Pinot Noir, so suddenly Pinot Noir is the "it" wine that Merlot was 15 years ago. [SFGate.com]

Beach House BS

I recieved a lovely letter from Sunset Properties a couple of days ago informing me that I owe them $90.25 for cleaning the house we left on Thursday, 10th February. What a load of b*ll*cks I thought, but that's not half what "I thought since speaking to the 'Housekeeping Supervisor' at Sunset Properties on the phone this afternoon. The way she described the state of the house, it was as if all that cleaning we did that Thursday morning never happened. Some of what she said was blatent lies too. I'll run through what I remember...
  • All glass tops were dusty. BS! the table was wiped down everyday, so that's just not possible.
  • Sweet/candy wrappers on the floor around the coffee table. BS! The floor was swept.
  • Kitchen counter tops dirty, not wiped down. BS! I wiped that down thoroughly Thursday morning.
  • Some bedrooms had covers hanging off the beds and not left made up (as they were found). BS! I checked all the rooms and all the beds were made up, as we found them.
  • Sand and hair in the showers. Probable BS!
  • Hair and dried urine round the toilets. Probable BS!
  • A used toilet roll behind one of the toilets. Big deal!
  • Fridge had food particles in it. Probable BS!
  • Microwave was dirty. Probable BS!
  • Downstairs floor was not swept. BS! Three or four of us helped sweep and mop the floor!
I really can't comment on the state of the bathrooms as I never inspected them that closely, but ALL the rest of it is complete tosh, which I did say to the woman, but she was such a stuborn cow, not conseding to anything and interupting/talking over me much of the time. I ended by saying she'll have to wait for me to get my next pay cheque...daft bint!

Anyway, there's the issue of the house not being 'ready' when we arrived. The water, TV and telephone didn't work. The locks were hard to use and judging by the layer of dust on everything, no one had been there for some time... as expected though. The woman said she wished we had reported these things when we got there, about the dusty/dirtyness of the place atleast. I said we had, she said not. After the phone call, I spoke to J about it, who said to me that when reporting the water, tv/cable and telelphone problems to the emergency maintanence after we arrived, J was asked how the house was, and she said it was dusty and obviously winterised, but it wasn't a big deal. I called back the woman at Sunset Properties and told her this and she just said she was sorry that we had a different memory of events but Jana never said that the house was dirty at all and just said it was the house was fine. We then had another bout of what she claimed was wrong with the place and I was all but calling her a liar. I said I had checked most of these things over myself before I left and there's just no way some of the things she says can be true. She just answered back by realling off the list again. I handed the phone to J for her to have a go. J was pretty much accused of being a liar and had all the same BS that I got, and it got so heated that J had to hang up on the tart!

That's how it is currently left. It's their/her word against mine/ours. I can't be risking having any kind of legal action taken against me, not that that's likely. No one's called back since and they've not tried calling here. Their customer service is really bad. Safe to say we wont be using this company again. I'm composing an email to send to them, I may back it up by post too. Unfortunatley I won't know who reads it as it's just a company email address that I have.

If anyone would like to call Sunset Properties and hear the BS for themselves, feel free, on (+001) 800-525-0182 and ask for the Housekeeping Supervisor, or the manager if you like! The house was called 'Sunset Dream' rented on Feb 7 - 10, under my name.

A Bit of House and Laurie

House is a fairly new show on Fox staring Britains own Hugh Laurie, but he's all 'Mericanised.... not just a little bit 'Merican but he is sporting the most 'Merican of 'Merican accents, even by 'Merican standards. Infact, the accent is pretty comical, like something he would do on A Bit of Fry and Laurie.

A thunderstorm just came out of nowhere! Thunder, lightning and flash floods... great! Where're the tornado's? The frogs seem to be loving it anyway. I will record the noise they make, because the Internet needs it.

New Trailer: Hitchhikers Guide to the Galaxy

...worry no more, for today the second (and possibly final) trailer for the Garth Jennings-directed comedy debuted exclusively on Amazon.com (yeah, we were surprised by that, too). And it’s extremely encouraging. [EmpireOnline.co.uk]

The Simple Sh*te

Speaking of that Twiglet, Ms. Hilton, I saw the first 2 episodes of The Simple Life 3: Interns, a couple of weeks back. This time Plaster-of-Paris and Nicole Shane Richie try out a different job in each show as an intern... like an apprentice. Now the first season on A Simple Life which I saw bits of was palitable with it being quite funny as to how unbelievably dumb these two airheads are, but this new series... well, if it's not scripted, which it seems to be, I seriously fear for their well being. E.G. They go out of this advertising business' office to do a lunch-run for their co-workers, but they go to the bakery/sandwich shop what ever it was and decide to eat bits of everyones food... and end up being late and no-one gets their lunch, from what we saw. It wasn't funny... or dumb... just stupid, in the sh*t way.

I've seen a preview for another episode where they are working in a funeral home, where they are left in charge with moving coffins around, presumeably not all empty. Now, even by my standards thats pushing the the bounds of taste and decency, atleast out of respect, or lack of, for the famlies that have used this particular funeral home. I hope this home doesn't get many if any 'clients' after showing who they are willing to have handle, or at least be around, your peoples loved ones. Not sure if it's aired yet, but the show is on tonight, after That 70's Show which is good, then American Idol (on which their's a girl Jana went to school with) and then
The OC is on after The Simple Life, so it might prove hard to avoid!

Move Niko

Jana's back at work this morning... so life is returning back to normal. I need to start working, but I'll clean the house, or at least my room up first...it may take the rest of the week though, a big clothes and bags bomb must have flown in through the window and exploded in here while I was away last week. It's a reet mess. Jana's mom, Linda, had to come home from work and 'remove' Niko - the smallest and eldest canine here, cos I couldn't get him to leave my room and therefore enable me to clean up. He doesn't bother me, but I aint touching him for fear of loosing a digit. Sometimes, most often when Linda is here, Niko will refuse to use the stairs and have to be carried, but other times he will run up and down those stairs like he was 10 years younger... except for the weezing afterwards. Today he got up the stairs, but 'chose' not to go back down and just barked... until he barged his way into the bedroom and become an obsticle.

Listened to BBC Radio 1 again since being married, cos that sounds different now. Scott Mills went on about the annoyance that is twenty-something year old girls 'wearing' a small yappy dog in a bag as a fashion statement a-la Plaster-of-Paris Hilton. Apparently this 'look' is on the up in London, with a few listeners calling in to say they'd seen someone on the street with their dog like this and how crap it is. Aint that the truth.

The frogs are still going off outside. Even by day, they can't get enough of that croaking.

Movie Review: Hitch

Went to the cinema to see the Fresh Prince's latest offering this afternoon with J. It's pretty funny, has more of a chic-flic element to it than I first thought but ammusing all the same. However, there was one movie going first for me. It wasn't related to Hitch itself, I don't think, but more related to the bug that had struck Bec, Poll and Muz days before. Yes, the pains in my stomach grew too painful for me to remain seated without christening my new boxers (baught from the Gap outlet shop at Myrtle Beach last week), and I had to move swiftly (or is that swiftly move..?) to the gents! I think I missed about 10 minutes of the film, though it was towards the end where the chic-flic mushy 'I know I did wrong, but please forgive me cos I do love you anyway' bit had kicked in.

So Hitch...
Not bad.
